The orange folders I send on Fridays DO NOT RETURN this time.

Monday: we will do some class work and finish a couple of our books; we will have a ball game at 1:15.Your child may wear Veritas T-shirt; jeans/shorts—may need to bring sunscreen and bottled water.  Parents are welcome to come. No uniform required.

Tuesday: we will have Field Day.  Our class will participate from 9 until noon; if your child stays all day, we suggest you send a change of clothes because of the water games they’ll be playing and a towel, bottled water, and sunscreen.   If you come,too, they can leave at noon if you wish.  If they stay all day, we will go back to our room until dismissal time at 2:30. No uniform required.I will send home test folders on Tuesday as usual BUT DO NOT RETURN.

Wednesday: we will have awards assembly/6th grade graduation at 9:00.  Every first grader will received AT LEAST one award. Uniform required.

Thursday: Uniform required.  Regular school day.  Your child will bring home all of his/her supplies,etc. Please do not send anything with them on Friday.

Friday: Party day and report cards will be issued at noon at the dismissal time.   DO NOT SEND SNACKS,LUNCHES,BOOK BAGS,ETC.    Your child will have PLENTY to eat at our party.

Thanks for allowing me to teach your child.  Look forward to seeing you next year at Veritas on occasion when you’re there to pick up your child, etc.

PLEASE, PLEASE encourage your child to read this summer.  The more you do anything the better you get at it—-children think if they’ve just read words that they’ve read the assignment; however, I strongly disagree—-if you cannot tell what you read, you have not read it.  Also, on occasion use math flash cards.

SPELLING: Lesson 29; the usual routine with writing spelling words 3 times each on Monday and Tuesday nights and turning them in the following school day; Thursday for homework write words missed on trial test 5 times each and use 8 of the words in sentences and turn in on Fri.Fri.-test.

READING: We are in our final book DOWN BY THE SEA.  Reading homework on Mon.,Tues.,Thurs.nights.

MATH:  Tests on Thursday—total review—nothing new on the test.

BIBLE: Philippians 4:13 NIV—oral test on Friday.

PHONICS:  Test on Tuesday.

Our fundraiser ends this week with the Carnival on Friday, April 23, and if any of you adults can come help, we can surely use you.

SPELLING: We will not have our regular spelling this week.

PHONICS: We will have our phonics test on Tuesday as usual.  However, notice the page I sent home on Thursday with the list of spelling words that are on Tuesday’s phonics test.  Your child is to write those words 3 times each Monday night for homework and turn in on Tuesday.  Then, Tuesday night he is to use 8 of the words in sentences.

MATH:  Tests on Thursday.  We continue learning multiplication facts for the 0,1,2,3,4,5,and 10 times tables.  We’re even learning to divide right now.   We continue working on adding and carrying over; subtracting and borrowing; reading clocks to the minute and reading thermometers.

READING: We will have reading homework on Monday and Tuesday nights.    We have one more reading book in our first grade reading curriculum.

PHONICS: Test on Tuesday.

MATH: Tests on Thursday. We’re learning the 3 and 4 times tables now.

SPELLING: Test will be on Thursday because of the field trip on Friday.

BIBLE: I John 5:3    oral test will be on Thursday because of the field trip on Friday.

Encourage your child to work hard to the very end.  One or two bad grades can really mess up a good grade average.

PHONICS: Test on Tuesday. Spelling words: also,boxes,out,ago,patch,stamping,liked,shaking,been,hoping,smiled,and making; special sounds:ea(thread);ough(enough); ey(obey).  Be able to write down two of the prefixes we have learned: a, al, be, en, un.

READING: Mon.KIND AND BRAVE:p.84-91; Tues.STRONG AND TRUE: p.6-21; Thurs.STRONG AND TRUE:p.33-41.

MATH: Tests on Thurs.: multiplying by 0,1,2,3,5, and 10; adding 3 digit #’s and carrying over; subtracting and borrowing; fractions; counting by 10’s,2’s,and 5’s and being able to fill in the missing numbers; measuring, thermometers,clocks,and mixed numbers.

BIBLE: Oral test on Fri.; “Be imitators of God,therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love.” Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV.

Spirit Week was loads of fun.  The children all seemed to enjoy each day’s “dressing theme”.The pep rally and talent shows were awesome.

SPELLING: No spelling the week after spring break.  We will review and have spelling bees.

READING: We’re still reading in KIND AND BRAVE.  Assignments were sent home today for that week’s Monday and Tuesday nights’ homework.

PHONICS: The test will be a review and given in an “open-book” style manner.

MATH: Your child will bring math homework on Monday and Tuesday nights of that week to be completed and turned in the next school day.  The tests will be totally review tests.  Please drill as much as possible on the times tables for 2, 5, and 10.

BIBLE: The oral test will be given on Thursday morning.   Matthew 28:6a NIV

Thursday, April 1, we will have our annual Easter cook-out for the students and faculty/staff. Then we will have our Easter egg hunt.  PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD BRING ONE DOZEN PLASTIC EGGS ALREADY FILLED WITH CANDY NO LATER THAN THURSDAY MORNING,APRIL 1.   Also, send a basket or a container for the egg hunt.

DON’T FORGET TO “SPRING FORWARD” YOUR CLOCKS SATURDAY NIGHT —–

March 19 is Talent Show and Pep Rally.

SO—Because of the above: SPELLING: The test will be on Thursday.  The trial test will be on Wednesday and the words missed on the trial test will be written in class because we don’t give homework on Wednesdays.   Thursday night your child will still be expected to use 5 words in sentences and turn in Friday UNLESS he/she and you come to Thursday night’s rally/ice cream party.

READING: AESOP’S FABLES: Mon.read 80-87 and Tuesday read 88-92. Thursday in ANIMALS IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS read 144-151 UNLESS your child and you come to Thursday’s meeting then he/she doesn’t have to do the reading homework either.

Again, on Fri.,March 5, your child may bring a board or table game to school.   Be sure your name is on the game. .
